Waverly Chicken and Babyback Ribs Deli is now in Patchogue, filling the Waverly Avenue space previously occupied by Sequoia Deli and Catering.
Called “Chicken’s” for short, the new breakfast and lunch spot is owned by local entrepreneur Nick Stallone, who also runs the Firehouse Deli in Blue Point and Atlantic Deli on Atlantic Avenue, and previously operated Landmark Deli in Sayville.
Stallone’s new deli specializes in serving skinless pressure-fried chicken, which employees described as “super moist and fresh.” The deli has been attracting customers with dancing chicken and egg mascots outside the eatery.
“You know how many customers have come in just to see the chicken?” exclaimed one deli worker. “Please!”
Customers will have the opportunity to hang out with the two mascots during an upcoming grand opening celebration that is still being planned.
After six-plus years operating in Patchogue, Sequoia Delicatessen & Caters — initially called Seaqua Deli when it opened — shut down in December, just before the holidays. The spot was previously home to the Milk Depot for decades.
Waverly Chicken, located at 205 Waverly Ave. between 6th and 7th streets, is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. It is closed on Mondays.
