Rewatch the moment: A year ago LI’s Jeremy Ruckert was drafted by the New York Jets

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since Long Island’s own Jeremy Ruckert heard his name called during the 2022 NFL Draft, fulfilling a childhood dream of being selected by his hometown team, the New York Jets.

Ruckert, a 6-foot-5, 252-pound tight end from Lindenhurst, was picked in the third round with the No. 101 overall pick. He was surrounded by his family in his hometown when he got “the call” from general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh, a touching moment that was captured on video and shared on social media.

“It was a long night but I would’ve waited 50 more rounds to have a feeling like this,” Ruckert told Greater Long Island‘s Jamie Stuart moments after being drafted. “It was surreal but it’s not the ending, it’s the beginning of my story.”

Ruckert’s impressive college career at Ohio State caught the attention of NFL scouts, and his playmaking ability and physical attributes made him an attractive prospect for the Jets. His selection was a proud moment for the Long Island football community, which hadn’t seen a player drafted in a few years.

The day of the draft was a special one for Ruckert and his family, as they watched him achieve a lifelong goal of playing in the NFL. His parents, who had supported him throughout his football journey, were overjoyed to see their son realize his dream. Relive the moment by watching the video below.

Here’s another angle of Ruckert having his dream realized.

Despite facing a setback due to injury in the offseason, Ruckert remained focused and committed to improving his skills and making a contribution to the team.
